Meeting Minutes:

Scott County Township Association

Spring Lake Town Hall

Tuesday April 21, 2026 7:00 PM

The meeting was called to order by Chair Ted Kornder; pledge was recited. Agenda was approved.

All townships were represented. Present from Helena: Wermerskirchen, Nytes, Croatt

Minutes and Treasurer’s Report were approved. Going forward, SCTA meetings will be the 3^rd Wednesday of march and the 2^nd Wednesday of September.

District Director Diane Johnson provided a MAT update.

• Lobby Day is March 1^st from 10-5:00 at the History Center.
• ARPA reporting is due.
• Annual Conference is December 10-12 at Grandview Lodge.
• August 5^th Scott County will host the District 4 meeting at Spring Lake Town Hall

Scott County Natural Resources WMO Capital Project was shared with the group by Venesa. John will follow up with Ryan Holzer on the SMBE ponds because of a May 15^th deadline.

The 2050 Com Plan Progress Report was presented by Brad Davis.

SWCD discussed the spray program for 2026, noting that many townships may wish to forgo spraying this year as much progress has been made by eradicating several noxious weeds. Spraying in 2026 will be in conjunction with Scott County for cost savings.

Attorney Ruppe answered questions.

• Reminder to inspect signs at night (by 65+YO for reflectivity)
• Tree diameter of 6” or greater 24” from the ground, need to have landowner signature prior to trimming or removal with ROW
• Clearcutting ROW without permission results in triple damage

Scott County Commissioners Barb Brekke, Tom Wolf, Dave Beer and Jody Brennan provided updates.

• 5^th lowest county for property tax rate in the state
• Group Homes do not need to be licensed until more than four residents

Myron Bratsch was reelected to represent Belle Plaine and Helena Townships; unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM.
